GRG MUSKOX©

GRG is now developing the first full-scale GRG amphibious oil spill recovery system - the GRG MUSKOX© - to be installed on the GRG's MUSKOX© vehicle and on the GRG MUSKOX© barge which is towed by the vehicle (see photos). This innovative new system is scheduled for land and sea trials in late 2007.

The GRG MUSKOX© oil spill recovery system is engineered with the unique capability to clean up oil spills along any coastline, where other systems cannot operate. The GRG MUSKOX© will have the amazing capability to clean up oil slicks right off beaches, and to separate sand and rocks from the oil.

GRG MUSKOX© amphibious vehicles can survive in very rough sea states and can navigate in open water at speeds up to 5.5 knots, even while carrying a full load.

GRG's MUSKOX© amphibious vehicle is unique, versatile, and very powerful, with a vehicle weight of 50,000 lbs., excluding load and excluding the barge. It has the highest degree of amphibious mobility of any craft in the world, according to Coast Guard authorities and the off-shore oil industry worldwide.

As a multi-purpose vehicle, it is used as an emergency personnel evacuation vehicle in extreme climactic conditions and in emergencies where no other vehicle or helicopter can do the job. GRG's MUSKOX© can transport up to 50 people.

These vehicles are often installed on off-shore drilling platforms and other oil rigs as emergency evacuation crafts to quickly evacuate personnel in the case of a dangerous leak of lethal gases. They have also been used in the far north of Canada by the Canadian Coast Guard to help safeguard communities trapped by severe storm conditions, enabling transport of people, food, medical supplies, and fuel. They have also served as back-up rescue systems for ships sailing through the Northwest Passage. GRG's MUSKOX© has also served as an ice-breaker and can easily climb out of the water onto solid ice, even with a full load.

GRG's MUSKOX© has also been used by the oil industry to transport seismographic and drilling equipment into locations where no other vehicle can transit. Deck loads may range up to 25,000 lbs., and top speed on ice or land ranges between 10 and 20 kph, depending on conditions.

GRG's MUSKOX© can climb straight up slopes of 30 degrees and can maneuver across inclines up to 50 degrees, depending on loading and surface conditions. By virtue of its articulation, the vehicle can physically climb up and over a 90 degree 10-foot vertical ice step barrier with a full load.
